American Corner opens in Darkhan

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – The United States is proud to open a new American Culture and Information Center, or simply American Corner, in the Youth Development Center in the city of Darkhan.

At the opening ceremony, U.S. Ambassador Michael Klecheski praised the partnership with the Darkhan-Uul Province Child, Family and Youth Development Center, which hosts the new American corner, and said, “Darkhan is a city of industry, entrepreneurship and learning. . It’s great that American Corner helps bring the people of Darkhan closer to the United States.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this American Corner will offer information about U.S. culture and history, English language classes, library services and Internet, US college admissions counseling services, and regular cultural events. All resources and events at all American Corners are open to everyone and completely free.

This American Corner fulfills a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2020 between the Agency for Child, Family and Youth Development and the United States Embassy. Renovations began in November 2020 and were completed in January 2021. This is the first new American Corner to open in Mongolia since 2017. The U.S. Embassy also supports American Spaces in Ulaanbaatar, Uvs, Khovd and Dornogovi.

While in Darkhan, Ambassador Klecheski had the pleasure of meeting with Darkhan-Uul Province Governor B. Azjargal and Citizens’ Representative Chairman Khural S. Nasanbat to discuss ways to further promote cooperation and ties between our two nations.
