Mongolia’s Mobicom Leverages IP Infusion’s Disaggregated Cell Site Gateway Solution

IP Infusion this week announced a partnership with Mobicom, a subsidiary of KDDI and the main mobile operator in Mongolia, to adopt disaggregated network solutions that will offer increased capacities to the supplier’s customers.
Mobicom will leverage IP Infusion’s OcNOS and UfiSpace’s S9500-30XS to create a disaggregated router solution that gives the provider access to a multi-vendor ecosystem and state-of-the-art silicon, delivering exceptional services to customers at lowest cost per bit.
Mobicom uses IP Infusion OcNOS, a carrier-grade solution that aligns with the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) DCSG technical specifications. OcNOS will enable Mobicom to deploy mobile services and grow its subscriber base through disruptive open network technologies and lower total cost of ownership (TCO), while breaking away from traditional proprietary solutions.
As Mongolia’s first and largest cellular communications operator, Mobicom’s services include international communications, Internet and satellite communications, and wireless local loop. As of January 2022, Mobicom holds the widest range of coverage in Mongolia with more than 41.8% of the mobile services market and 99.7% of settlement area network coverage across tth country.
Satoshi Moniwa, Vice President of Technical Planning and Deployment at Mobicom
In 2021, Mobicom launched an interoperability trial to test the potential of an open and disaggregated approach. Today, we have confidently partnered with UfiSpace and industry leader, IP Infusion, for a combination of software and hardware to deliver increased mobile connectivity and services to our customers. With a Disaggregated Cell Site Gateway (DCSG) approach, we are meeting our growing demand for innovation while reducing network costs.
Atsushi Ogata, President and CEO of IP Infusion
We are excited to work with Mobicom, Mongolia’s largest mobile operator, to accelerate network disaggregation. We’ve done extensive testing with KDDI and Mobicom at the TIP Community Lab in Tokyo, and it’s great to see that Mobicom is embracing DCSG to take advantage of the scalability and flexibility that open networking can provide.
