Just as China effectively curbed a rampaging epidemic resurgence in Beijing and Shanghai, a new wave has hit China’s northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with a total of 90 infections reported since the first was detected on Thursday. .

The region on Sunday recorded 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 33 asymptomatic carriers, bringing the total to 41 and 49 respectively. The majority of cases were found in the Xilingol League.

Erenhot in the Xilingol League has become the area most affected by this epidemic. According to local authorities at a press conference on Monday, the city has reported a total of 82 cases, and all have been transferred to designated hospitals or makeshift hospitals for treatment, with no seriously ill patients.

Meanwhile, Erenhot has sent 32 notices to authorities out of town involving some 48 people who are close contacts or secondary close contacts of the confirmed cases and who have traveled to other locations.

The fifth round of mass nucleic acid testing was conducted early Monday.

Some 35 residential communities in Erenhot have been identified as isolated areas.

In view of the medical needs of the people at this time, the emergency department of Erenhot People’s Hospital is open normally and patients who cannot be treated locally will be referred for treatment after carrying out acid tests. nucleic and other related tests.

Since the last outbreak, the city has received support from various parties. 296 workers were dispatched to help with medical treatment and mass screening operations. An additional 365 medical workers from the region have also been sent to the city.

A total of 70 testing sites and a makeshift mobile laboratory have been set up for large-scale nucleic acid testing.

With the national college entrance exams, or gaokao, to be held from Tuesday, epidemic-hit cities are drawing up plans to ensure a safe and smooth environment for applicants.

On Friday, Sun Shaocheng, Party Secretary of Inner Mongolia, said in a video conference that Erenhot should attach great importance to epidemic prevention operations and called on local authorities to take responsibility and curb at all costs. the spread of the virus.

Sun also urged cities to ensure the gaokao is held and not let any candidates miss exams due to the epidemic.

Inner Mongolia has seen repeated outbreaks over the past two years, with its border city Manzhouli a major hotspot. Most outbreaks have been triggered by imported cases.

Epidemic prevention teams at land ports should not be caught off guard, and it is very important to avoid epidemic overlap, Sun said.
