Official visit of the US Congressional Staff Delegation to Mongolia > US Indo-Pacific Command > 2015
Ulaanbaatar, U.S. Embassy Mongolia — A delegation of U.S. Congressional staff, led by Mark Iozzi, National Security Advisor, Office of Majority Leader Hoyer, visited Mongolia from June 29-2 July. The delegation, made up of four staff members, met with government and parliamentary officials to discuss democratic processes, the impact of COVID-19, regional influence and the Russian invasion of Ukraine .
The US Congressional staff delegation was received by Deputy and Chairman of the US-Mongolia Parliamentary Group, Ts. Munkh-Orgil as well as Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Department for the Americas, Middle East and Africa A. Anand. During the visit, the delegation visited the Advance Water Purification Plant project site of the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the International Republican Institute (IRI), which hosted a workshop on democratic partnership and celebrated 30 years of close collaboration with the Mongolian people. Staff also met with owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who received loans from USAID’s Business Excellence for Sustainability and Transparency (BEST) project and the Mongolian State Alumni Association.
The United States has always been at the forefront of advocating for Mongolia’s democratic transition and shared democratic values. As the two countries mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, this visit demonstrates the shared commitment to democracy, Mongolian sovereignty and the strengthening of U.S.-Mongolian ties.
