The football team will face the Maldives and Mongolia
The Bangladesh national football team will play two friendlies against Maldives and Mongolia during the FIFA window in March, Bangladesh Football Federation Vice President Kazi Nabil Ahmed said on Tuesday.
Bangladesh will visit the Maldives to take on the island nation on March 24 before hosting Mongolia at the Sylhet District Stadium on March 29.
“Our team will go to Maldives on March 22 and play the friendly against Maldives on March 24. Then the team will return home on March 25 to play another friendly against Mongolia in Sylhet,” Nabil said.
Nabil informed that the BFF also communicated with countries like Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Indonesia, but they finally managed to organize matches against Maldives and Mongolia and are now waiting. to obtain FIFA approval as international matches.
“We have communicated with different countries to use the FIFA window of March 21-29… We are communicating with FIFA to get final approval,” Nabil added.
These games will be Bangladesh’s 186th first international campaign ranked by FIFA this year, if the BFF plan works out properly.
With the Maldives game, the new Spanish coach of Bangladesh, Javier Cabrera, will open his account as the national team coach for the first time.
Bangladesh were scheduled to play Indonesia in Bali on January 24-27, but the BFF earlier on January 13 had to cancel the trip due to a Covid-19 vaccination issue.
However, Mongolia (184th) and Maldives (157th) are ranked higher than Bangladesh in the current FIFA rankings.
