TMK begins drilling the SL-2 CBM well in Mongolia

TMK Energy, formerly Tamaska Oil and Gas, has begun drilling the second well, Snow Leopard-2 (SL-2), of its inaugural drilling program in the Nariin Sukhait area of the Gurvantes XXXV coal bed methane project ( CBM) in the South Gobi Basin in Mongolia, he said on May 16.

SL-2 is scheduled to be drilled to a depth of approximately 600m and targets the same coal formations intersected in the first well, Snow Leopard-1 (SL-1). The well will be cored and all significant coal deposits intercepted will be sampled and subjected to the same gas stripping tests undertaken at SL-1 to provide gas content, saturation and composition data there. Further gas content results and permeability test data from SL-1 are expected to be available shortly, TMK said.

At the end of SL-2, two more fully cored holes in the Nariin Sukhait area are expected to be drilled and tested over the next two to three months. Startup of the pilot well program remains on track in the second half of 2022, the company said.

Additionally, data collected from the initial four-well drilling campaign is expected to enable the company to convert a portion of the 5.96 trillion feet independently certified.3 gross potential resource into a first contingent resource in the second half of 2022.

The Gurvantes project covers an area of 8,400 km2 and is located approximately 20 km from the Sino-Mongolian border and close to the gas transmission and distribution network in northern China. Earlier this year, TMK completed the acquisition of Telmen Energy, which held a 100% stake in the Gurvantes XXXV project.
